It is no secret that white opal is one of my favorite materials to utilize as a designer, it carries with it tremendous properties that serve to calm the mind and protect the spirit from negative energies. WHERE TO START
It’s All About Texture Texture Texture
whether its hammered vs glossy gold, smooth stones vs staggered crystals, or whatever texture you can find, the first thing that’s key to creating the perfect jewelry stack is to incorporate variety, they don’t call it the spice of life for nothing! Having multiple different textures adds visual interest and gives the eye somewhere to go which creates excitement and a sense of wonder (notice the two rings stacked on the pinkie finger here…. the gloss gold braid against the sparkle texture of the chain makes both pieces better together than they could ever be apart and draw your eye along to the next piece in the stack)
Add in unconventional details for a bit of spice
when it comes to layering always incorporate one piece that either pushes you outside of your comfort zone or which excites you! this will add a bit of extra wow to your look that will excite and inspire you, let alone everyone you come across in the day (for this step I’ve embraced a crystal eye snake ring for a bit of fierce energy)
Embrace Things with Color Shifting Properties
Now we don’t have to go dramatic here to accomplish something with big impact! Naturally a phenomenon exists called phosphorescence. This describes how certain things have a color shifting property that allows them to alter their appearance in different lights and environments. In other words they naturally sparkle. (For this step I’ve paired a white opal starburst ring with my existing set. The white opal shifts as I move my hand and causes a rainbow of sparkling colored light to come across its surface adding a special surprise to set myself apart
Wear only what speaks to you
Now above all this is the most crucial step. When it comes to layering the most successful sets tell a story about the person wearing them. The symbolism, the colors, the sparkle and flair all of these things should be reflective of you and what you love. You want to wake up and go to your jewelry box and instead of being intimidated by what to wear pick out the first few things that just feel natural to you and your mood today… odds are you picked out just what you needed!
